ACU music department supports "A New Nation”

Jacob and Esau are coming to life in Abilene.

The musical drama “A New Nation” gives the account of Isaac's twin sons as told in the book of Genesis. The production will be directed by ACU opera director Rick Piersall. ACU artist in residence and associate professor of voice Samuel Cook will play Jacob and alumna Julie Dieltz will play Rebekah, Jacob's wife.

The Benevolent Music Corporation recently announced the premiere of the biblically-based musical drama with music by Mark Peterson. The performance brings the infamous familial conflict to life, featuring the talent of the ACU opera ensemble, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra.

“A New Nation” will have two special performances during the week of ACU's Summit conversation on life and faith. After its premiere in Abilene, the production will travel to the W.E. Scott Theatre in the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.

The show will be performed at the Paramount Theatre Sept. 15 and 16 at 8:30 p.m. Those who buy 'Special Patron' tickets are invited to pre-curtain discussion with the musical's composer and director beginning at 7:45 p.m. Also, depending on the price of the 'Special Patron' ticket purchased, a contribution will be made to one of three local charities: Hope Haven, Christian Service Center or Sam's Place.
