Two ACU debate students, Joyce Schuster and Dylan Brugman, were ranked the 21st debate team in the nation at the National Parliamentary Debate tournament last month. Schuster and Brugman won their debate in the tournament's triple-octo round, one of the event's highest rounds.

The National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA) invited the 64 top debate teams in the country to compete at the invitation-only national tournament. The event was held at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.

Schuster, a freshman in her first year with debate, and Brugman, a junior in his second year with debate, were ranked 21st for their performance.

Schuster was named the top debate recruiter in the nation, making her one of the best freshman debaters this year.

Schuster and Brugman made it through five rounds of "out-rounds," an accomplishment only made by the top 40% of teams who come. After the out-rounds, the team advanced to the triple-octo rounds. They won in triple-octo and lost in double-octo.
