ACU Connected renewed as Apple Distinguished Program

Posted January 28, 2013

Abilene Christian University is pleased to announce it has renewed status as an Apple Distinguished Program for the 2012–2013 school year for its mobile learning initiatives.

This year, Abilene Christian University joins a select group of institutions Apple is renewing nationwide as exemplary learning environments. The Apple Distinguished Program designation is reserved for programs that integrate Apple technology in education and meet the five best practices: visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching, ongoing professional learning, compelling evidence of success, and a flexible learning environment.

"We’re very pleased that Apple has again recognized ACU for its innovative and meaningful advances in student engagement and learning," says Dr. John Weaver, Dean of Library Services and Educational Technologies at ACU. "Our faculty’s instruction and implementation of Apple technology supports deeper learning and digital skills that gives our graduates an advantage as they begin their careers.  We look forward to expanding our Apple Distinguished Program through coordinated efforts across the university."

"We are especially excited about the future of mobile learning at ACU in relation to iPad. It is a key strategy in our development of lower-cost, interactive digital textbooks, and participatory learning environments that can benefit all ACU students,” says Weaver.

About Abilene Christian University

Abilene Christian University launched a mobile-learning initiative, ACU Connected, in 2008. The initiative trains students to not merely consume vast amounts of information, but to assess information, to synthesize thoughts, to generate new ideas, and to contribute meaningfully to conversations of global importance. ACU is committed to exploring how these technologies can be used to help people learn in new ways and discovering how these tools can aid us in its mission to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world. More than 4,500 students, including nearly 800 graduate students, enroll in ACU from 47 states and territories, and 43 nations. Visit for more information.
