What Is a QEP?

QEP stands for Quality Enhancement Plan. The QEP is a required initiative that outlines a new, long-term program chosen by a university to enhance learning for its students. A QEP is designed to complement a university's existing programs to improve the university's learning environment, strengthen student learning outcomes, and support the mission of the institution.

The QEP is a required part of re-accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the body that accredits ACU. Without SACS accreditation, your ACU degree would not be as valuable to you or as recognized by future employers and graduate programs.

A QEP includes the following components:

  • a focused topic, directly related to student learning
  • clear goals
  • adequate resources in place to implement the plan
  • evaluation strategies for assessing the achievement of the QEP goals
  • institution-wide development and support of the plan

Development and implementation of a QEP involves the following process:

  • assessing the current state of student learning at the university (2008-2009)
  • gathering topic recommendations from faculty and staff (Spring 2009)
  • evaluating topics based on their viability and fit with the university assessment and mission (Spring-Summer 2009)
  • select topic (Fall 2009)
  • developing the plan (2010)
  • submitting the plan to SACS (Feb. 2011)
  • undergoing evaluation and a campus visit by SACS (Apr. 2011)
  • receiving approval from SACS (Fall 2011)
  • implementing the plan (2012-2016)
  • measuring and evaluating the results of the plan (2012-2016)
