Tony Roach Jr. ('01) | College of Business Administration

In February of his senior year, when many seniors are caught up in Sing Song and other activities, marketing and management major Tony Roach Jr. ('01) was busy putting résumés in the mail.

One of them made its way to Southwest Airlines, and, the week after graduation, the company interviewed and hired Roach as a field marketing coordinator.

"It's really been great," Roach says about the company that has made the top 10 on Fortune's "America's Most Admired Companies" list four years in a row.

"The opportunities here are like no other," says Roach, who works with 33 sales teams around the nation to implement marketing strategies.  "I see why people really look up to the company."

Roach believes his COBA mentors more than prepared him for the business world.

"Everything I do at Southwest was covered in my classes," he says.

The most important tool Roach says he has taken with him from ACU is the ability to build relationships - a skill he learned not only in the College of Business Administration, but on the university's basketball team and in student organizations such as LYNAY and Essence of Ebony.

"Much of my job involves working with other people," he says.  "If I endeavor to provide excellent customer service to everyone I meet, it will always work to my benefit."
