Summer '15: ACU Music Students Learn & Lead
Mikalia Bradberry (Junior, Vocal Performance, Abilene, TX): Mikalia was a soloist with the ACU Alumni Chorus and will be featured on their forthcoming reunion chorus recording. Mikalia also participated in ACU Opera’s Young Audiences performance at the Abilene Public Library.
Stephanie Bradley (May 2015 graduate, Instrumental Music Education, Littleton, CO): Stephanie was hired by Katy ISD for an elementary music position at Rhoads Elementary School.
Sean Casias (December 2014 graduate, Instrumental Music Education, San Antonio, TX): Sean was hired by Belton ISD for an elementary music position at Chisholm Trail Elementary School.
Katherine Cotten (Senior, Vocal Music Education, Richardson, TX): Katherine participated in the Westminster Choir College Florence Voice Program in Florence, Italy.
Cedric Dario (Junior, Instrumental Music Education, Garland, TX): Cedric participated in the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps in San Antonio, TX. They performed in the finals at Drum Corps International in Indianapolis, IN.
Ellen Donaldson (Senior, Vocal Music Education, Richardson, TX): Ellen attended the Texas Choral Directors Association conference, where she was a student conductor in the “Advanced Middle School/Junior High” Reading Session. She received individual coaching sessions with Dr. Joey Martin and Dr. Joni Jensen in choral conducting techniques. Ellen worked alongside 15 other college students, all of them talented musicians and future colleagues.
Marc Gutierrez (Senior, Vocal Music Education, Leander, TX): Marc worked as a camp counselor at the Texas Music and Arts Conservatory Camp and co-directed the Slater Chorus - the camp’s top mixed choir. The singers rehearsed for four weeks, exploring a wide array of music styles and genres. Many of the students came from low-income communities.
Grayson Hancock (Junior, Instrumental Music Education, Abilene, TX): Grayson participated in the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps in San Antonio, TX. They performed in the finals at Drum Corps International in Indianapolis, IN.
Phillip Jackson (Senior, Vocal Music Education, League City, TX): Phillip served as the Director of the Anderson Chorus (a boy’s choir), music theory teacher, guitar class instructor, choral leadership assistant, and handbell choir assistant at the Texas Music and Arts Conservatory. His students improved in vocal technique and sang a diverse offering of choral music under his direction.
Megan Lewis (Senior, Vocal Music Education, Lubbock, TX): Megan directed the beginning women’s chorus at the Texas Music and Arts Conservatory camp. Along with directing the choir, Megan also taught voice lessons and assisted in the percussion area. Students ranged in age from elementary to high school and came from many different backgrounds.
Jennifer Magill (Senior, Vocal Music Education & Vocal Performance, League City, TX): Jennifer sang in the Taos Opera Institute Summer Program in Taos, NM. Jennifer was coached on four different arias and gave two performances every week and also performed in a gala concert, focusing on ensemble scenes from various operas. Through the institute, Jennifer had the opportunity to participate in a performance psychology seminar, a music business seminar, a private dramatic coaching session, and a master class with the world-renowned tenor, Jay Hunter Morris.
Caitlin Norquist (Junior, Vocal Performance, Woodland Park, CO): Caitlin studied at the Utah Vocal Arts Academy in Provo, UT, where she sang the role of Casilda in The Gondoliers and in the chorus of Falstaff. She received vocal coachings and acting lessons throughout the camp.
Andrew Penney (May 2015 graduate, Instrumental BA, Wylie, TX): Andrew participated in the International Trumpet Seminar for two weeks at the Chosen Vale Center for Advanced Musical Studies, an intensive study program working with world renowned trumpet players and teachers. Andrew also performed at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, NC, where he played for five weeks in multiple orchestras. EMF is one of the nation’s premiere summer music festivals.
Meredith Sellers (May 2015 graduate, Instrumental Music Education, Robinson, TX): Meredith was hired by Bryan ISD for an elementary music position at Sam Houston Elementary School.
Naomi Worley (May 2015 graduate, Vocal Performance, Plano, TX): Naomi participated in the Miami University Salzburg Festival in Salzburg, Austria, where she focused on German language acquisition along with regular coachings, lessons, and master classes.
