Tom has been a member of the ACU faculty since 1979, during which time he served as Director of the Marriage and Family Institute (1979-1995), Chair of the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy (1989-1995), and Associate Dean of the College of Biblical Studies (1996-1998). Tom was appointed as ACU’s Assistant Provost of Institutional Effectives in 1998, and at that time became an adjunct professor of MFT. In addition to his academic career, Tom spent many years in ministry. In his clinical practice, Tom specializes in cognitive behavioral couple and family therapy. Tom is a member of the American and Texas Associations for Marriage and Family Therapy and the National Council on Family Relations. He also has been director of counseling for Christian Homes of Abilene and chair of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists. He is an author and frequently speaks for churches, organizations, conferences and workshops.
Tom is a member of University Church of Christ. He is married to the former Sandra Woodroof, and the couple has two children, Kay Elizabeth and Matthew Thomas.
