Abilene Christian University's Office of Student Productions has named four students to serve as co-chairs for Sing Song 2009. These four students will coordinate all aspects of conceptualization, production and implementation of the annual show that involves approximately 1,200 students. Sing Song 2009 is slated for Feb. 20-21, 2009.
The co-chairs include:
Charrelle Coates, junior biochemistry major from Clarksville, Tenn., Sydney North, junior marketing major from Bedford, Anna Peters, junior children and family ministry/elementary education major from Houston, and Preston Woolfolk, sophomore political science/international studies major from San Antonio.
This group of four will coordinate ACU's 53rd
Sing Song, where student groups perform songs with lyrics they've
written hoping for the "overall winner" title for their
three-and-one-half-minute medley.
The medleys typically consist
of popular songs with rewritten lyrics to complement the group's chosen
theme. Hosts and hostesses singing tunes popular with the audience, a
jazz band and dance teams keep the show moving between acts.
According
to the Director of Student Production Tom Craig, "This year's co-chairs
are currently developing the Sing Song 2009 theme 'Believe,' recruiting
their production staff for the next year and brainstorming for ways to
make the 2009 show one that takes the breath away from audience
members."
Charrelle serves in her third Sing Song, leading the
team that coordinated the transition of group acts last year. She has
served on ACU's Homecoming Steering Committee for two years, serves as
a lunch buddy through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Abilene, and she has
also served as a peer leader for freshman students at ACU. Charrelle is
the daughter of Evana Yates and Frank Coates.
North has worked
with Sing Song the past two years helping coordinate the performance of
her social club Ko Jo Kai. Her club took the title of Overall Winner in
the women's category in February. Sydney has served as an officer in
her club, and this next year, she will work directly with new pledges
as "NuNu Mom." She also has served on the steering committee for
Welcome Week, ACU's freshman orientation week; Treadaway Kids, a
project designed to connect ACU students with children from nearby
neighborhoods; she was an ACU cheerleader her freshman year and crowned
the 2007 ACU Rodeo Queen. Sydney is the daughter of Mark and Lee North
Peters
served as a hostess for Sing Song in February performing feature songs
such as "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Africa" and "Battle of Jericho."
She was also part of her freshman and sophomore class acts. Anna has
been instrumental in various student groups on campus, including
Essence of Ebony, Virtuous African Heritage Sisterhood and ACU's A
Cappella Chorus. She also serves as an assistant director of a freshman
women's residence hall and has been involved in student leadership for
ACU's annual Bible Lectureship. She currently works in ACU's Office of
Multicultural Enrichment. Anna is the daughter of Karen Peters.
Woolfolk
has been involved with the Sing Song performances of his social club,
Galaxy. His club took the title of Overall Winner in the men's category
in February. He has also been part of the Students' Association, ACU's
student congress. He has been involved in the International Students'
Association, Rotaract International, and he has served as a peer leader
for freshman students at ACU. For the past year, Preston has also
worked in the ACU library. He is the son of Scott and Beth Woolfolk.
