ACU names new chief financial officer

ABILENE - Phil Schubert, CPA, has been named Chief Financial Officer for Abilene Christian University. He has been serving ACU for five years, most recently as director of financial operations.

As CFO, Schubert will be responsible for six areas of the university, including financial accounting and reporting; endowment and trust management; billing and receivables; accounts payable; student financial services (financial aid); and human resources.

Schubert said he is committed to helping educate more students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world through his efforts in financial management.

Jack Rich, executive vice president, said, "We often hear reports about how few professionals compare to ACU alumni in the business and professional world. ACU is very fortunate Phil, another of our top-notch alumni, has chosen to develop his professional career here."

Rich, who has been serving as executive vice president and CFO, said Schubert will be responsible for the financial management and financial record keeping for the university.

Schubert said, "Our task is to keep an ACU education affordable for as many students as possible while attracting and retaining excellent faculty and staff and maintaining an environment that is distinctively Christian."

As a 1991 graduate of ACU, Schubert offers ACU vibrant qualities.

"He is bright, has good analytical skills, good communication skills, good technical skills and the ability to understand both the big picture and the related details," Rich said. "He is an exceptional leader."

Before joining the ACU team in 1993, Schubert worked as an auditor for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Dallas. He currently is a board member of Information Associates of Texas, and a member of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, the American Institute of CPAs, Texas Society of CPAs and the National Association of College and University Business Officers.

"I'm sold on the value of the ACU experience, and I am proud to help offer that experience to others," Schubert said. He and his wife, Jamie, have one daughter, Sydnie.
