Dallas business leader Doc Cornutt to be honored with Distinguished Alumni Citation

July 18, 2006

Abilene Christian University will honor C.E. "Doc" Cornutt ('70) with a Distinguished Alumni Citation July 30 at 2 p.m. at Skillman Church of Christ in Dallas.

Cornutt, who has built a successful career in the oil business and commercial real estate, said that he first learned to think critically and logically at ACU.

"I learned how to process information, review implications and determine the most logical answer," he said.

After graduation, Cornutt did accounting work for Arther Andersen, and he transitioned to the real estate industry in 1973.

At age 24, he went to work for Ray L. Hunt, whom he describes as one of the finest business leaders in America. For most of his career, he's worked with Hunt's businesses, including Hunt Consolidated Inc., and related entities in oil, refining, finance, real estate and investment.

In 1997, he started Argent Property Company, a Dallas real estate organization affiliated with Hunt Realty Corp. The company was formed to develop and invest in industrial parks, properties and companies. Today he serves as its chairman and CEO, overseeing investments and other decisions.

Cornutt said that the Christian teaching at ACU grounded him both personally and professionally.

"I had the distinct pleasure of being around people of integrity, character and commitment to excellence," he said. "They were passionate about their work, had fun in the process and taught me standards from the old school – planning, preparation and performance with no flash."

He lives in Dallas with his wife, Linda, who he said provides the real "bottom line" to his life.

"I never could have done it without the constant love and support of my wife and family," Cornutt said.
