ACU film honored in Telly Awards competition

July 10, 2006

"Throughout the World,” a 2005 film for Abilene Christian University about the international implications of its mission statement, is a winner in the 27th annual national Telly Awards.

Telly Awards represent the year's best non-network, cable TV and film/video production work, and "Throughout the World" is ACU's fourth such honor in the last nine years.

The 31-minute high-definition film was first shown at the 2005 President's Circle Dinner at ACU, and continues to be shown at gatherings of alumni and donors. It was produced by Ron Hadfield, ACU director of creative services, and directed by Martin Perry, production manager and director of corporate production at Phillips Production Inc. in Irving.

"Receiving a fourth Telly Award is a tremendous affirmation of the excellence that has become the trademark of ACU's partnership with Phillips Productions. Ron Hadfield and Martin Perry make a remarkable team," said Dr. John Tyson, ACU vice president for development.

"It is always a pleasure to work with Phillips Productions on these projects," said Hadfield. "As an alumnus of ACU, Martin Perry understands our mission and shares the vision for these films. His commitment to teamwork and powerful story-telling makes a tremendous difference in our success."

"Throughout the World" focuses on the university's efforts to recruit and retain international students, the work of Chinese-born biology professor Dr. Junhui Bian, 2006 graduate Evans Lartey of Ghana, and the Madagascar Presidential Scholars Program. Perry traveled to Antananarivo, Madagascar, to film part of the project.

Previous Telly Award-winning projects from ACU and Phillips Productions have been the Centennial Campaign film, "The Mission" (2005); "Opening Assembly" (2003), a documentary about ACU's annual first-day-of-school ceremony; and "To Lead and To Serve" (1998), a fund-raising campaign of the same name.

"The Mission" won a silver medal in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's international Circle of Excellence competition in 2005.
