June 2, 2006

KACU is celebrating it's 20th year as a community radio station and NPR affiliate with a special dinner at the Abilene Country Club Thursday, June 8, at 6 p.m. The dinner will feature an advance screening of "A Prairie Home Companion."

Tickets for the dinner and screening cost $35 per person and can be purchased by calling 325.674.2441. The movie, "A Prairie Home Companion," is based on Garrison Keillor's popular radio show by the same name which airs on KACU.

The PG-13 movie is a look at what goes on backstage during the last broadcast of America's most celebrated radio show, where singing cowboys Dusty and Lefty, a country music siren, and a host of others hold court. The cast includes Woody Harrelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Garrison Keillor, Kevin Kline, Lindsay Lohan, Virginia Madsen, John C. Reilly, Maya Rudolph, Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Marylouise Burke, Sue Scott, Jearlyn Steele, Linda Williams, Prudence Johnson and others.

KACU-FM signed on June 2, 1986, at 89.7 on the FM band. On that date, transition from a carrier current campus station to a 33,000-watt FM National Public Radio broadcast affiliate became complete.

KACU broadcasts from ACU to 27 counties in the West Texas region.
