ACU director of bands accepts position at Baylor

Dr. Eric Wilson, director of bands and associate professor of conducting and saxophone, will leave the Abilene Christian University Music Department to become the director of bands at Baylor University beginning this summer.

"It is a bittersweet moment for the ACU Music Department," said Dr. Greg Straughn, chair of the department. "We’re losing a terrific musician, colleague, conductor and friend of the department."

In 2001, he earned his doctoral degree from the University of Michigan and returned to ACU as a faculty member. Wilson is also an award-winning saxophonist and has been a featured soloist for the North American Saxophone Alliance, University of Michigan Chamber Orchestra and the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra.

Wilson is responsible for the rapid increase in participation in the band program, which has doubled during the last four years. Last year the ACU Wind Ensemble was asked to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio.

Straughn said this is a great opportunity for ACU to place a talented alumnus in a distinguished program.

"My main desire is to be used by God to make a difference, and I hope to continue that desire at Baylor," Wilson said.

Applicants for Wilson’s position will be interviewed by the Music Department before his departure. Visit for more information.
