ACU alumni couple to receive Christian Service Award in Houston

Virgil and Caryl Fry will be honored with the Christian Service Award at a ceremony May 7 at 2 p.m. at the First Colony Church of Christ in Sugar Land. The Christian Service Award honors Christian service and dedication to ministry through Abilene Christian University.

The couple has been married for 32 years; both grew up in Dallas, attended ACU and now live in the Houston area.

Virgil is executive director of Lifeline Chaplaincy in Houston and Dallas. He received a B.A. and M.S. degree from ACU, pastoral training at Baylor University and a doctor of ministry degree from Austin Presbyterian Seminary. He worked as a chaplain at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston starting in 1985, where he ministered to thousands of patients and families. He has served as an adjunct professor at ACU and Pepperdine University, mentoring university student interns.

Caryl is a 1974 graduate of ACU and is currently an elementary school teacher in the Houston area. She was honored with a Change the World award from ACU in 2006 for Christian leadership in educational settings.
