Local educators, others honored at annual Morlan Award Dinner

Dr. Virginia Mosier

Dr. Virginia Mosier, director of career and technology services for the Abilene Independent School District, received Abilene Christian University’s Morlan Medal Award for outstanding teaching and leadership in education.

The Morlan Medal Award is an alumni award given annually by ACU's Department of Education and Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society.  Recipients are alumni who have made significant contributions or improvements in the field of education. The award was presented at the annual Morlan Awards Dinner March 31.

In addition, four other honors were presented, including a new award recognizing education mentors.  AISD biology teacher Marsha Allred received the first Lucy Hatch Mentor Award, given for mentoring prospective students. The C.G. and Barbara Gray Servant Educator Award was given to Dr. Dwain Hart for his work as a liaison with Abilene Christian Schools. Brenda May, owner of May Farm, was honored with the Bob Hunter Friend of Education Award, given to a person who has made significant contributions to education but is not a professional educator. The Legacy Award was presented to C.G. and Barbara Gray for their lifelong work and contribution to expanding and enriching the education of children.
