ACU alumnus receives Magazine Photographer of the Year Award

April 14, 2006

Chris Anderson, U.S. News and World Report photographer and 1992 graduate of Abilene Christian University, has been named Magazine Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association.

Awards were chosen and presented in February and March by a panel of judges from newspapers, magazines and universities across the United States as part of the 60th Annual Pictures of the Year International Competition. Awards in various categories of photojournalism were presented, and Anderson’s award was one of three in that category.

Upon graduation from ACU, Anderson accepted a position as a staff photographer for the Longmont Times-Call in Colorado, which he left in 1995 to do freelance work for publications such as Life, Time and Sports Illustrated.

He covered the wars in Bosnia and Iraq, skiing in China for Skiing Magazine and various other significant happenings.

Anderson, who resides in Boulder, Colo., when he’s not traveling, said that as a child he frequently dreamed of becoming an explorer, and his photography is the closest he’s come so far.
