Music faculty to perform collaborative recital Friday in WPAC

For immediate release
March 20, 2006

The Music Department's next Faculty Artist Series performance is Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Williams Performing Arts Center Recital Hall, and it will feature saxophonist Dr. Eric Wilson, director of bands and associate professor of music, and several collaborations with department faculty.
Wilson's performance will consist of mainly classical music, as well as a Centennial piece written by associate professor of music Dr. Sally Reid for the Centennial.
"It's been a desire of mine to have a performance in the Faculty Artist Series," Wilson said in a recent Optimist story. "It's intriguing, challenging and exciting to work on a new piece."
The faculty members collaborating with Wilson are Dr. Greg Straughn, chair of the Music Department, on the cello; Dan Mitchell, music professor, on the guitar; and Pauline Bjorem, professor music theory, on the piano. Dr. Allen Teel, associate professor of music, will also assist Wilson with the concert.
Wilson's recital is one of two taking place in the recital hall this week. Dr. Samuel Cook, artist-in-resident and assistant professor of voice, will perform Friday at 8 p.m. in a voice recital.
