Funds donated for theological reference collection in Brown Library

October 19, 2005

The Abilene Christian University Brown Library received a generous donation from Gaines Stanley Jr. and Vickie Stanley in honor of the life and career of Gaines Stanley Sr.

The Stanley donation will be used to obtain theological reference and periodical sources. The collection will be named Gaines Stanley Sr. Biblical Studies Reference Collection.

"This gift greatly enriches the intellectual resources of the university, especially targeting the 300 graduate students in the Graduate School of Theology, plus 3,000 undergraduates enrolled in Bible courses each semester in the College of Biblical Studies," said Dr .Mark Tucker, dean of library and information services.  "This contribution further solidifies ACU's stature in teaching and research in biblical studies, in providing leadership in Christian missions and ministry."

A 1950 graduate of ACU, Gaines Stanley Sr. preached in Texas before moving to southern California, where he currently teaches. Stanley has been dedicated to Christian ministry and training students for ministry for six decades.

Gaines Stanley Jr. and Vickie Stanley have also been named Friends of the Year for 2005 by the Friends of ACU Library. They were honored at a reception during ACU’s Homecoming.
