ACU student receives business honor society scholarship

August 29, 2005

Business honor society Beta Gamma Sigma awarded Jamie Carlstrom, a graduate student in the Master of Accountancy program at Abilene Christian University, a $1,000 scholarship.

ACU's chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma received the scholarship because it was recognized as an exemplary chapter, and College of Business Administration faculty selected Carlstrom to receive the award.

"Being awarded this scholarship is rewarding and encouraging," Carlstrom said. "The scholarship also affords me the opportunity to attend college with less stress on my finances."

Dr. Terry Pope, faculty advisor of the ACU chapter and associate dean of the College of Business Administration, said they looked beyond academics to find what makes the student outstanding since all the applicants are excellent students. Pope recognized Carlstrom’s heart for service.

ACU's chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma will be awarded another student scholarship later this school year as well.

"Beta Gamma Sigma is a great organization with a number of contacts and resources available to its members. Being specially recognized by BGS can only bring positive results for any career choice," Carlstom said.

Beta Gamma Sigma is a national business honor society available to programs accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
