Greg Bush to perform jazz recital in Faculty Artist Series

Greg Bush, director of jazz studies and trumpet instructor, will be performing with the ACU Jazz Combo Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in the Williams Performing Arts Center Recital Hall as part of the Department of Music's 2005-06 Faculty Artist Series.  The performance is free and open to the public.


Bush has performed as a freelance jazz trumpet player in big bands and orchestras that have accompanied artists such as Big Miller, Paul Horn, Bobby Shew, Lee Konitz, Dizzy Gillespie and Bob Brookmeyer. Bush has also led his own big band and quintet, performing at jazz clubs, concert halls and numerous jazz festivals across Canada. He has also performed in Australia, the Fiji Islands, Germany and Switzerland at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

ACU's Centennial Faculty Artist Series will feature other faculty artists during the year including:

  • Marcia Straughn, instructor of flute, and Ron Rathburn, professor emeritus of piano, Nov. 3 
  • Dr. Pauline Kung Bjoren, assistant professor of music, March 6 
  • Dr. J. Eric Wilson, director of bands and associate professor of conducting and saxophone, March 21
  • Samuel Cook, artist-in-residence and assistant professor of voice, March 24

All performances are free and will be held in the Williams Performing Arts Center Recital Hall at 8 p.m. 

About Greg Bush   
Originally from Montreal, Canada, Bush has earned his bachelors of fine arts degree from Concordia University and a Masters of music in jazz performance from McGill University. He has served on the music faculties of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, Canda; and Red Deer College in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Bush joined the ACU faculty in 2003. At ACU, Bush conducts the large and small jazz ensembles and teaches the High Brass Methods, Introduction to Music and Jazz Pedagogy classes. Also as leader of "The Greg Bush Quintet," he has released his first CD, "Cause and Effect," featuring his original compositions.
