Overton Faubus to be honored at Centennial COBA luncheon

Dr. Overton Faubus, former head of Abilene Christian University’s business department, will be honored Sun., Oct. 16 at 11:45 a.m. in the Teague Special Events Center at the Cenntennial Luncheon Honoring Overton Faubus. Former classmates, ACU faculty and staff and the Abilene community are invited to the reception and luncheon.

The reception will be from 11:45 a.m.- 12:15 p.m., and lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $12; for more information, please call the College of Business Administration at 325-674-4812.

Faubus served as the head of the Department of Business from 1967-1980. During his time at ACU he received the Trustee’s Award for Teacher of the Year in 1972, and he was honored by his alma mater, Texas A&M University, in 1977 as its Outstanding Alumnus in Accounting. In the spring of 1980, he was honored by ex-students on Overton Faubus Day with the establishment of the Overton Faubus Endowed Professorship in business. He is widely known for his long-lasting relationships with students and his constant encouragement for them to succeed.

He has served as president of the Abilene Chapter of the Texas Society of CPA’s and has been a committee member of that organization and the Industrial Development Board of Texas. In addition he has been active as a discussion leader and lecturer for the State Society of CPA’s on their continuing professional education. He is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, American Banking Institute, and has served on the Lubbock District Advisory Council of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

ACU, a national leader in Christian higher education with 4,700 students from around the world, was founded Sept. 11, 1906. The university is celebrating its Centennial year from Aug. 22, 2005 to Sept. 11, 2006 with the theme "Called to Faith and Excellence."
