Gutenberg Dinner to Honor Distinguished Journalists

October 5, 2005

Abilene Christian University's Journalism and Mass Communication Department will honor three distinguished alumni at the annual Gutenberg Dinner at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 13 at the Teague Special Events Center.

The dinner recognizes three outstanding alumni and awards them with the Gutenberg Award, a miniature model of the original Gutenberg printing press.

The honorees for 2005 are Wendell Edwards, who graduated from ACU in 1992 and is a general assignments reporter for KHOU-TX in Houston; Marcia Prior-Miller, an associate professor at the Iowa State University Greenlee School of Journalism in Ames, Iowa, who graduated from ACU in 1970; and Harold Straughn, a 1961 ACU graduate and a nationally recognized author, minister and director of Life Spiral Communications in Oklahoma City.

This year's dinner will feature a display of a working model of the Gutenberg Press, produced by Rusty Maizel of Fort Worth, who is an authority on the Gutenberg Press and its impact on printing and the Bible.

The Gutenberg Dinner began in 1993.  Honorees must be alumni for at least 10 years and are nominated by the department’s faculty.  Tickets for the dinner cost $30 and may be purchased through the Journalism and Mass Communication Department by calling 325-674-2296.
