New Centennial Challenge issued for 2005-06

September 27, 2005

Anonymous donors have, for the third consecutive school year, issued a $250,000 challenge to alumni and friends in honor of Abilene Christian University's Centennial. The gift-matching challenge encourages alumni, parents and friends to make a first gift or renew their support for ACU’s Centennial Annual Fund.

New or upgraded gifts to any of the Centennial Annual Fund designations made by Dec. 31, 2005 qualify for a one-to-one match under the Centennial Challenge. These gift designations include:

  • Centennial Annual Fund
  • Centennial Annual Fund: College of Arts and Sciences
  • Centennial Annual Fund: College of Biblical Studies
  • Centennial Annual Fund: College of Business Administration
  • Centennial Annual Fund: Library and Technology
  • Science-Math Research Fund
  • Hope for the Future Scholarships

In addition, a goal of the challenge is to increase the number of alumni donors to 7,500 by May 31, 2006. This is a significant increase over last year and will require the support of close to 1,500 additional alumni donors, said Rendi Hahn, development program manager.

During the 2004-05 school year, 6,623 alumni, parent and friend donors made qualifying gifts totaling $571,798.86. These gifts were used in a variety of ways across campus, including scholarship aid to students; campus improvement projects, including The Depot and residence hall upgrades; print and electronic additions to the library; upgrades to computer labs; and much more.
