Latin American concert to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

September 14, 2005

Entra a la Plaza, a concert celebration of the music of Latin America, will be held on Friday, Sept. 23 from 7-10:30 p.m. in the mall area of the Abilene Christian University campus around the GATA fountain.

The concert will include music ranging from Mariachi bands to contemporary soft rock bands and will feature performances of traditional Latin American dance, including the tango and ballet folklórico.

In addition, food donated by Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy, El Chico Mexican Café, La Popular and Ta Molly's will be served at no cost to the public. Several students will also be cooking food from Latin American countries.

ACU's student organization Hispanos Unidos is organizing the event to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 15.

The organization wants to give an authentic and diverse presentation of what Latin American culture is, said Thomas Madrid, a student officer of Hispanos Unidos.

Everyone is invited to join the celebration at no cost. For more information, contact Madrid at 668-0829 or 676-0645.
