Theatre department announces benefit performance of ‘Grand Night for Singing’

Sept. 6, 2005

Abilene Christian University’s Department of Theatre will offer an additional performance of “A Grand Night for Singing” with all proceeds benefiting Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, said Adam Hester, chair of the Department of Theatre. The performance is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m.

ACU’s fall dinner theatre was scheduled to run through Sept. 10, but the additional performance was added to help raise funds to aid hurricane victims.

“We felt called to do something and we felt this show, which deals with the importance of relationships and the power of faith and love, would be an appropriate vehicle,” said Dawne Swearingen, director of the show and assistant professor of theatre.

The Tony Award-nominated musical revue, “A Grand Night for Singing,” features such popular hits as "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" and "I Cain't Say No" from Oklahoma; "This Nearly Was Mine," "Honey Bun" and "I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy" from South Pacific; and "Shall We Dance?" and "Hello Young Lovers" from “The King and I,” plus tunes from “The Sound of Music,” “Carousel,” and many others.

For tickets, call 325-674-ARTS. Tickets are $15 and are show-only.
