Abilene Christian University's Study Abroad Office recently announced Dr. Rhonda Collier will join the ACU faculty as on-site director in Montevideo, Uruguay. She will begin in January but will be on campus next week to meet with students and faculty.

On Sept. 8, Collier will meet with students who are interested in Study Abroad at noon in the Living Room and with faculty and staff at a come-and-go reception from 1-3 p.m. in Room 124 of the Administration Building.

A 2001 Fulbright Scholar, Collier studied at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial engineering from The University of Tennessee-Knoxville and Georgia Tech; a master of arts in English and a master of arts in comparative literature from The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga; and a doctorate in comparative literature at Vanderbilt University.  Collier is currently on the faculty at Lipscomb University, serving in the English department.  She has lived in England and traveled throughout Africa and Europe and is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.

ACU Study Abroad has two locations – Oxford, England and Montevideo, Uruguay – that provide a unique blend of European and South American cultures.  Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, is a city of nearly 1.5 million people and offers a safe environment and balances education with culture. ACU Study Abroad sends close to 50 students each semester to these two locations and 120 students during the summer months.
