Deadline nears for pre-publication sale price on Centennial book

August 24, 2005

Alumni, students and friends of Abilene Christian University have until September 15 to save $10 on the pre-publication price of The ACU Century, the university's Centennial book.

After Sept. 15, the book's price will be $49.99. Almost two years of research and writing went into the 192-page, full-color, oversized (10"x14"), "coffee-table style" photographic history book edited by Ron Hadfield and designed by the award-winning ACU Creative Services staff.

"This Centennial book is a treasure," said Dr. Michelle Morris, Centennial Celebration director and vice president for University Relations. “If you have any ties to ACU, you will want to look at 'The ACU Century' again and again.”

The ACU Century is organized by decades and features narrative essays about important people, history and traditions in ACU's first 100 years, as well as important and rare photography of events and historical items from archives and the Centennial Collection.

“It should be an indispensable keepsake of the Centennial for alumni, students, parents and friends,” said Hadfield, director of Creative Services and editor of ACU Today magazine. “We used some of the best feature writing from the pages of Horizons and ACU Today magazines, as well as new essays from our best alumni writers. Some of the photographs have never been published before, and many reflect the hard work of a crew of dedicated volunteer researchers who have worked for more than year to help us find and identify images for publication.”

The books are scheduled to arrive in time for Homecoming, Oct. 13-16. They can be ordered online, along with other commemorative Centennial merchandise. Some commemorative items are already available in The Campus Store in ACU's McGlothlin Campus Center.

ACU, a national leader in Christian higher education with 4,700 students from around the world, was founded Sept. 11, 1906. The university is celebrating its Centennial year from Aug. 22, 2005 to Sept. 11, 2006 with the theme "Called to Faith and Excellence."
