The Centennial Convocation at Abilene Christian University officially welcomed the start of ACU’s 100th year of educating students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.

The 100th opening of school included traditional ceremonies such as the Parade of Flags, performances by the Big Purple Band, the singing of “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” and the reading of Acts 17. This year’s parade of flags represented 47 states and 57 nations.

Dr. Royce Money, ACU president, reflected on ACU’s past and spoke of allegiance to God above all others and then focused on ACU’s future. He listed five future expectations as ACU looks to the conclusion of one century and the beginning of another:

  • engage in holistic, faith-informed learning;

  • challenge students and each other to the highest level of excellence in all that we do;

  • equip students to serve and lead in whatever circumstance they find themselves;

  • help alumni remain connected to ACU and to the vast ACU family for life; and

  • teach and practice Christian stewardship in every area of life.

The celebration concluded with purple and white balloons and confetti falling from the top of the Coliseum to mark the opening of ACU’s Centennial academic year.
