Abilene Christian University’s Creative Services office was honored with two awards in the 2005 international Circle of Excellence competition sponsored by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

“The Mission” Centennial film won a silver medal in the category of Electronic Media: Fund-Raising Features, and “Learning the Way of the Warrior,” a photograph by ACU alumnus and 2004 Pulitzer Prize winner David Leeson, earned a bronze medal in the Individual Photography category.

ACU alumni Martin Perry, associate producer of Phillips Productions Inc. of Dallas, and Ron Hadfield, ACU’s director of Creative Services, collaborated to produce the film. “It was designed to inspire alumni and donors about ACU’s Centennial Campaign and to remind them what ACU's mission means, how it changes lives and why it's worthy of their support,” Hadfield said.

Leeson’s photograph was from ACU Today magazine’s Fall 2004 issue, and depicts 71-year-old Newton Old Crow Sr. of Lodge Grass, Mont., wearing a ceremonial headdress that belonged to his father. Leeson and Hadfield’s cover story addressed a unique sociological internship served by ACU students each summer on the Crow reservation in south central Montana.

Other universities receiving awards in the film category included Phillips Exeter Academy, Santa Clara University and the University of Nebraska. Other institutions receiving Individual Photography awards were Bowling Green State University, Middlebury College, University of North Dakota, University of North Carolina, University of Georgia, University of North Carolina at Greensboro and New York University.

CASE is the largest international association of educational institutions, representing more than 40,000 professionals in alumni relations, communication and marketing, advancement services and development at more than 3,200 schools.
