Summer Workshops sponsored by the Abilene Christian University College of Biblical Studies will focus on the theme "Set Your Hearts on Things Above" July 28-30. The annual Summer Workshops are designed to provide ministry resources, curriculum and encouragement for church leaders and members.
This year's theme was chosen as an exploration of Colossians 3 to encourage, equip and inspire workshop attendees in search of the "compass," "clothes" and "community" for a new life and journey in Christ. With the writings of Paul providing direction and encouragement for those caught between the old ways of death and the new ways of life, keynote speaker Dwight Robarts, pulpit minister for the Skillman Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas, will deliver three sessions centered on Colossians 3 pointing to "things above."
The workshops will kick-off Thursday, July 28 at 7 p.m. with Robarts’ keynote session entitled "Set Your Hearts on Things Above: The Compass" in Cullen Auditorium followed by a presentation by the singing group “Hims of Praise” and book signing for authors Mark Love, Douglas Foster and Randall Harris for the fourth book in the Heart of the Restoration Series entitled "Seeking a Lasting City" in The Campus Store.
Featured events at this year's Workshops are a Small-Church Ministry Workshop consisting of five sessions focusing on ministry in churches with 250 members or less, an Older Adult Ministry Workshop focusing on designing and leading older adult ministries, and the Prepare/Enrich Certification Seminar: Pre-Marital and Marital Counseling Training providing certification and sessions on the development of pre-marital and marital mentoring programs. The Prepare/Enrich Seminar requires pre-registration with a registration deadline of July 15.
Friday's events will include breakout sessions at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. with workshops on preschool, elementary, children’s, youth and adult ministries. A worship session will be at 11 a.m. in Hart Auditorium and exhibits will be at 3:30 p.m. The day will close with the keynote session, "Set Your Hearts on Things Above: The Clothes" at 7 p.m. in Cullen Auditorium. Saturday will feature two breakout sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 p.m. followed by the final keynote session at 11 a.m., "Set Your Hearts on Things Above: The Community" in Hart Auditorium.
The registration fee for the three-day workshops is $30 and on-site registration will begin at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 28 in the McGlothlin Campus Center at ACU. Registration fees may be mailed or paid upon arrival. Online registration is available Summer Workshops online at http://www.acu.edu/events/summerworkshop/registration.html. A complimentary barbeque dinner will be Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Church of Christ Multi-Purpose Activity Building for all workshop participants who have registered and paid.
