Centennial Challenge extended, increased

For immediate release
May 13, 2005

The anonymous donors who offered the Centennial Challenge last June to encourage giving to Abilene Christian University’s Centennial Campaign have extended and increased the challenge for the remainder of the month of May.

ACU alumni, parents, and friends were encouraged to participate in the Centennial Campaign through the Centennial Challenge -- a pledge of a $250,000 matching gift if  $250,000 in new or upgraded gifts to the Annual Fund were made between June 1 and Dec. 31, and if 6,000 donors made an Annual Fund gift between June 1, 2004 and May 31, 2005.

The dollar goal was exceeded in December 2004, and in early May the donor goal was reached.

In order to continue this momentum through the end of ACU's fiscal year, the anonymous donors have agreed to a continuing challenge that will end on May 31, 2005.  They will give an additional $100,000 if the total number of donors increases to 6,500, said to Rendi Hahn, development program manager.

Any Centennial Annual Fund gift, regardless of size, will count toward this total if made by May 31.  To find out more about the Centennial Challenge, view the Challenge web page at

"Annual Fund gifts benefit every student across campus by providing for the budget needs of the university," Hahn said. "Without those gifts, it would be impossible to provide the affordable excellence in Christian education that has characterized ACU through the years."

If you would like to help meet the extended Centennial Challenge and make a gift in support of ACU's students and mission, there are various ways to give:
