The Abilene Christian University community will join together to do volunteer work all across Abilene this Saturday, April 16 at the annual ACU for Abilene Service Day.  Each year at ACU for Abilene, about 400 ACU faculty, staff and students join together to serve the Abilene community.

The day of service will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on the Zona Luce lawn with breakfast, prayer and praise. T-shirts, breakfast and door prizes await participants during the kick off.

Groups will then proceed to one of the 24 service project locations around Abilene.  The service activities include manual labor, helping children, working with the elderly, and neighborhood clean-up.

The Service Action Leadership Team, a branch of the ACU Volunteer and Service Learning Center, sponsors the event each year.

"I believe that we should all come together to serve our neighbors in the name of Christ," said Jordan Swim, co-chair of ACU for Abilene and sophomore Bible major from Richardson.

Sign-ups for ACU students and employees to participate in ACU for Abilene are taking place in the Campus Center ticket windows Wednesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  For more information, contact Nancy Coburn, director of the Volunteer and Service Learning Center at 325-674-2932
