Cynthia Leibrock, an internationally known expert on designing for the aging, will speak at Abilene Christian University April 19. The event is co-sponsored by ACU's interior design program and the Pruett Gerontology Center.

Leibrock will give two presentations – at 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. – on April 19 in Hart Auditorium. Both are free and open to the general public. Leibrock's first presentation is "Designing for the Future: Universal Design," and her second is "Aging Beautifully: Design Research on Aging." The lectures will be of special interest to interior designers, architects, social workers, therapists, hospital and retirement community administrators and other health professionals. To pre-register for the presentations, call 325-674-2087 or 325-674-2350.

With the aging of the Baby Boomer population, this topic is especially relevant, said Kitty Wasemiller, professor in the Department of Art and Design.

"Because of our aging population here in the U.S., we need to hear expert voices on how to provide quality of life," Wasemiller said. "This gives us the expertise to help engage in understanding and finding ways to make life better, in homes and in institutions."

Leibrock is an award-winning author, international lecturer and designer with more than thirty years of experience. She founded EASY ACCESS TO HEALTH, LLC located in Livermore, Colo., and she has served as a lobbyist, a lecturer to Fortune 500 companies, and a research associate at Colorado State University. For the last ten years she has taught in the architecture department at The Harvard University Graduate School of Design. She received the 2002 Change Maker award by The National Symposium of Health Design and the 2002 "Design for Humanity" award for lifetime achievement from The American Society of Interior Designers.
