For immediate release
Jan. 24, 2005

The annual 2005 Economic Outlook Conference at Abilene Christian University featured Jeff Thredgold, economic futurist and president of Thredgold Economic Associates in Salt Lake City, and Ray Ferguson, a local CPA, CFP and partner at Condley and Company, LLP, providing insight on the national and local economy.

Thredgold emphasized differences in small and large businesses, education’s role in higher wages, new technology and advances, and his incentives theory, especially within capitalistic governments.  He said he remains optimistic about the stock market and ended his speech with encouragement about the future.

Ray Ferguson displayed bar and line graphs illustrating Abilene’s business climate survey expectations for 2005 for both retail and service.  He emphasized Abilene’s employment growth rate, which has been higher than the Texas employment rate and in the top five of all Texas cities, according to the Texas MSA Employment Index.
