For immediate release
November 29, 2004

World-renowned classical saxophonist Donald Sinta will perform and present classes at Abilene Christian University Wednesday and Thursday.

He will be performing the Texas premiere performance of a concerto written especially for him by one of his former students, Charles Rochester Young. Sinta will play with the Abilene Christian University wind ensemble on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Cullen Auditorium. This concert performance will be Sinta's second solo appearance at ACU.

While on campus, Sinta will also be featured at a lecture and recital on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the recital hall of the Williams Performing Arts Center.

Sinta will conduct a saxophone master class Thursday at 3 p.m. in the recital hall of the WPAC for middle school, high school and university teachers and students.

Admission is free for all three events.

"It is an honor for ACU to host one of the most distinguished musicians and educators in the world today," said Dr. J. Eric Wilson, director of bands. "This will be a memorable event for all of us."

The ACU wind ensemble will perform the concerto by Young with Sinta at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in February as well.

Sinta is professor of saxophone and former chair of the wind department at the University of Michigan and is an active soloist and clinician throughout the United States and Canada.
