Former Bible professor Eugene Clevenger dies

Nov. 24, 2004

Dr. Eugene Clevenger, professor emeritus of Bible at Abilene Christian University, died Tuesday in Abilene at age 85. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. at University Church of Christ in Abilene. Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory-Abilene, 325-677-4355, is handling the arrangements.

Clevenger taught Bible at ACU for more than 30 years, beginning in 1955 and retiring in 1988. He also taught at David Lipscomb University and Florida Christian College and served as a minister for churches in Hendersonville and Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Clevenger held a bachelorís degree in religion from Pepperdine University, a degree in New Testament from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Theology degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He is survived by his wife, Glennie; three children, Gary Clevenger, Gene Anne Chounet, and Gay Lynn Clevenger; three grandchildren, Robin Williams, Evan Murphy Clevenger, and Cody Clevenger; and a brother, Ralph Clevenger.
