The Friends of the Abilene Christian University Library will honor Dr. Joseph J. Mogan, Jr. and Dr. Joyce Palmer in a reception Oct. 22. The theme for this year's reception is "Big Time" and celebrates the Library's 2004-2005 emphasis on improving the English language and literature collection.
Mogan is a retired English professor from Texas Tech University who donated his entire personal collection to the Brown Library. His respect for Dr. James Culp and Dr. Forrest McCann, professors emeritus of English at ACU, led to Mogan's decision to donate.
"The collection is centered in medieval literature, history and philosophy," said Virginia Bailey, instructor of library science. "Dr. Mogan's collection fills an important gap in the library’s holdings."
Palmer served on the visiting committee for the Department of English from 1993-1996 and from 1997-2000 she and her husband Dr. Leslie Palmer were both members of the committee. Together, they donated 233 books and 157 periodical issues, and following the death of her husband, Palmer sent an additional 700 volumes and 96 periodicals.
"These two donors are being honored because of their generosity to the Brown Library with these substantial gifts," Bailey said.
The reception will be held Fri., Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. in the Library Atrium. For more information call Virginia Bailey at 325-674-2352.
