ACU's annual Gutenberg Dinner to honor accomplished journalism alumni

The annual Gutenberg Dinner, hosted by Abilene Christian University, will be held on Oct. 21 to honor three distinguished alumni of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The three alumni being recognized for excellence in their field are Loren Halifax, Craig Smith and Lt. Col. Monty Brock. The dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Teague Special Events Center at ACU. 

A 1984 ACU graduate, Smith is president of World Bible Translation Center in Fort Worth. This organization has completed 31 New Testament translations and 13 Bibles, distributing more than six million copies of the Bible annually. Prior to joining the World Bible Translation Center, Smith was an account executive at Zachry Associates in Abilene and managing editor of Alumnus magazine at Abilene Christian University. 

Brock is a decorated military officer who has made key contributions to national security. He is currently the Commander of the 389th Fight Squadron at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. He played an instrumental part in planning and executing Operation Allied Force and supported operations over Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Brock is a 1984 ACU graduate.

As news anchor and reporter for WDAF-TV in Kansas City, Mo., Halifax has covered everything from presidential candidates to painting elephants in her 11 years of television news. She has made significant efforts toward investigative reporting and is an Emmy Award finalist for breaking news coverage. Halifax is an ACU alumnus from the class of 1991.

Tickets are available for the dinner at $30 each. Table and dinner sponsorships are available for $300 and $1,000 respectively.  All proceeds benefit the JMC department.  For tickets and information, contact the JMC office at  (325) 674-2295.
