ACU's Homecoming musical Kiss Me, Kate on stage Oct. 22-24

For immediate release
October 15, 2004

Abilene Christian University's Department of Theatre will take the stage for the annual Homecoming musical.  Kiss Me, Kate, directed by Eric Harrell, is a romantic comedy full of wit and featuring a musical score by Cole Porter.

The story is set backstage at an out-of-town tryout for a musical based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew as Fred Graham, played by junior theatre major Ben Jeffrey, and Lilli Vanessi, played by senior theatre major Kelly Haseltine, bicker and romance their way through the timeless story.  The musical is based on the book by Bella and Samuel Spewack.

This year's musical features a veteran cast and unforgettable music by Porter such as "Another Op'nin, Another Show," "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," "Why Can't You Behave" and a memorable dance number with "Too Darn Hot" at the beginning of Act II.

Collaborating with Harrell are Jeanette Lipford, musical direction; Gary Varner, technical director; Teri Wilkerson, choreography; Sandy Freeman, costume design; Eric Wilson, conducting; and Marty Sachs as guest lighting director from Tulane University.

Performances are at the Abilene Civic Center Oct. 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.  Tickets are $5-15.  For tickets or more information call 325-674-ARTS (2787).
