With a thriving national radio ministry, "Upwords," and more than 28 million copies of his 50 books in print, Lucado is one of the nation's most recognized and most popular ministers. He grew up in the West Texas town of Andrews, received his undergraduate degree in journalism and mass communication and a master's degree in Bible and biblical related studies from ACU. Lucado has served as pulpit minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio since 1988.
Poe, the Republican candidate for U.S. Congressional District 2, has received national attention for his creative sentencing during his 23 years as a judge in the Houston area. Poe received a degree in political science from ACU and worked as a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney's office for six years before taking the bench in 1981. He served as a member of ACU's Board of Trustees from 1990 to 2004.
A transcript of Lucado's prayer is available here.
