ACU sends 38 students, five faculty to study abroadFor immediate release On Aug. 25, Abilene Christian University said goodbye to 36 of its own students, five faculty members and two students from Lubbock Christian University as they departed Abilene for a semester-long study abroad program. Each semester, including summer terms, ACU hosts two Study Abroad programs: ACU in Oxford, England, and ACU in Latin America. In Oxford, students take courses in the humanities, social sciences, fine arts and biblical studies. Students in Latin America are based in Montevideo, Uruguay, and take courses in Spanish, social sciences, fine arts and biblical studies. Classes in each country emphasize the integration of coursework and the surrounding culture as well as cultural issues in each country. "The programs are specifically designed to encompass the mission of ACU – educating students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world," Annie Nichols, Study Abroad coordinator said. "Students deepen their faith as they reach out to their communities through service-learning opportunities and have the chance to travel and experience the beauty of different cultures." Twenty-four students are studying in Oxford with on-site directors Dr. Ron and Janine Morgan, both of the ACU Center for International and Intercultural Education, and faculty-in-residence, Dr. Tony Ash, professor of Bible, missions and ministry. Fourteen students are studying in Montevideo with on-site director Dr. Warren Roane of the Center for International and Intercultural Education, and faculty-in-residence, Dr. Steve Weathers, assistant professor of English. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are a member of the media who would like more information about this release, please contact Wendy Kilmer, Director of Public Relations. |
