ACU offers two free piano concerts in April

Pianists from Texas Woman's University and Sul Ross State University will perform at Abilene Christian University's Williams Performing Arts Center in April. Both concerts are free and open to the general public.

April 2, 8 p.m., Recital Hall, Williams Performing Arts Center

Dr. Richard Shuster, assistant professor of piano at Texas Woman's University, will give a piano recital including "A Little Midnight Music" by George Crumb and Piano Sonata in F Minor Op. 5 by Johannes Brahms. 

Shuster is active as a soloist, collaborative artist, lecturer and teacher and holds degrees from Indiana University and Eastman School of Music. He has appeared as a guest artist and clinician throughout the United States and abroad including recent recitals in Texas, Oklahoma, throughout the Eastern United States and in Budapest, Berlin and the Caribbean.  He has taught at Ithaca College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Finger Lakes Community College and the Indiana University Young Pianists Program.

April 22, 8 p.m., Recital Hall, Williams Performing Arts Center

Dr. Sergio Ruiz of Sul Ross State University will perform a Sonata by Mozart, "Spanish Dances" by Granados, Preludes for Piano by Gershwin, and Sonata for Piano by Barber.

Ruiz has degrees from Santa Clara University, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Rice University.  A California native, Ruiz has been active as a pianist, clinician, and judge around the U.S. and South America. In 1998, he was a finalist at the Carmel Music Society Competition.  In 1995 he performed the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. Ruiz joined the Sul Ross music faculty in 2002.
