Abilene Christian University will introduce the Gayle and Gwen Hensley Endowed Scholarship in a presentation to Gayle Hensley Cole on Tuesday, Feb. 24, during the university’s annual Bible Lectureship.
The fund will provide scholarships that will be awarded to missions students in the Department of Bible, Ministry and Missions. Lynn and Barbara Camp and Joe and Ann Ritchie established this endowment in honor of Gayle and Gwen Hensley who served in the mission field of Vienna, Austria for 23 years, and began a small printing press in 1961 that later became Eastern European Missions.
"This endowment strengthens the ability of the university to prepare young men and women for the mission field," said Mariana Long, senior development officer for ACU. "At the same time it honors the Hensleys who spent 23 years in the mission field."
Friends and family members of Gayle and Gwen Hensley have contributed to the fund, which was started by several of the couple’s classmates from the class of 1959. All gifts to ACU designated for this scholarship will be devoted in perpetuity to the endowment, Long said.
