Abilene Christian University's First-Year Program, in conjunction with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, will co-sponsor the national "Annual Conference on the First Year Experience" Feb. 20-24, in Addison, Texas. With more than 1,000 in attendance from institutions of higher education, the conference will focus on providing educators with information and ideas on how to assist new students as they acclimate themselves to the higher-learning environment.
Nine faculty and staff members from ACU will be making presentations at the conference:
· Charles Mattis: Academic Advising Through University Seminar: Moving to a
Collaborative Intake Model
· Tom Winter: Assessing the Impact of First-Year Programming: One Institution's
Experience
· Jeff Reese and Wayne Miller: Effects of a Career Development Course on Career
Decision-Making
· Dwayne Miller and Jeff Reese: The Discovery Program: Engaging Students in the
Process of Career Development
· Mimi Barnard: The Assessment of Cognitive Development and Writing Aptitude in
Learning Communities
· Cole Bennett: First-Year Service-Learning Experience
· Laura Baker: 20/20 Hindsight: Lessons Learned from the Evolution of a FYE Library
Unit
· Jason Morris: Spiritual Integration as a Predictor of Persistence at a Christian
Institution of Higher Learning
· Mark McCallon: A Discrete-Time Survival Analysis of the Temporal Dimensions of
Student Departure from College
