Library to honor new dean at Homecoming reception

For immediate release
Oct. 22, 2003

The Brown Library at Abilene Christian University will sponsor a reception Friday during ACU’s Homecoming celebration in honor of Dr. Mark Tucker, newly appointed dean of the library.

The reception, which will take place in the library atrium from 3:30-5 p.m., will be an opportunity for people to meet Tucker and show their support for the library.

Punch and cookies will be provided as refreshments, and people are welcome to come and go.

Tucker began at ACU in mid-September.  He served on the ACU Library Visiting Committee from 1997-2000 and 2002.  Previously, Tucker was professor of library science and the humanities, social science, and education librarian at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., directing the largest library in the Purdue system.  Tucker received his bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb University and went on to the University of Illinois to complete his Ph.D. in library and information science.

The reception is important event for the library because it is a way to publicize what the library has been doing, said Mark McCallon, assistant director of the library.

“This is a great way to give alumni and friends a chance to come back to visit and see the changes that are taking place.”
