ACU to feature internationally acclaimed pianist in concert, classes

For immediate release
March 13, 2003

Renowned pianist Carolyn True will bring her talents to Abilene Christian University for both entertainment and academic instruction March 21 and 22.

True will give a concert Friday, March 21, at 8 p.m. in the recital hall of the Williams Performing Arts Center. She will also teach a master class Saturday, March 22, in the recital hall at 9 a.m. and a lecture on "Incorporating Technology in the Studio" at 1 p.m. in Room B5 of the performing arts center. All of the events are free and open to the general public.

Dr. Gustavo Tolosa, director of the piano division in the Department of Music, said he invited True because he knew her classes and performance would inspire students, teachers and audiences alike.

"She is a pianist, lecturer and adjudicator of national reputation, and I know it is absolutely essential that students see what's possible and get inspiration to achieve higher levels of performance," Tolosa said. "For teachers it will be important to see a master teacher in action, teaching students of all levels and ages as well as bringing the latest in technological developments."

In her thirteenth year on the faculty of Trinity University, True teaches in San Antonio and travels nationally to participate in workshops, master classes, seminars and actively performs solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire.

True has won prestigious awards in her career, including the Texas Music Teachers Association's 2000 Collegiate Teacher of the Year, and she has been a prize winner in national and international competitions such as the Kapell International, MTNA and Eastman Concerto Competition. True has performed in over 25 states as well as Tours, Paris, and Lyon, France.
