A 1974 graduate of ACU, Roberts worked for the state agriculture department from 1986 to 1998 before he was named CEO for U.S. Rice Producers. After graduation from ACU he also served three years in the Peace Corps in Paraguay.

Last year Roberts traveled with a five-member delegation from Texas and a film crew from the CBS news magazine "60 Minutes" to Cuba to explore the opening of U.S. trade there (he appeared on CBS Sept. 29, 2002). He is married, and he and his wife, Zully, have three children. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Roberts of Abilene. Roberts' talks are open to the public.
