For immediate release
Dec. 10, 2003
The collection for Abilene Christian University students Gene and Noemi Pena, who lost their home and all belongings to a fire on Dec. 4, continues this week.
The couple will be moving into the Sherrod Apartments on the ACU campus in the next week but are still in need of some basic items.
ACU is asking for donations of gift cards to avoid duplication of items and to give the Penas some flexibility in their purchases, said Lea Watkins, administrative assistant to the university vice president. Gift cards from stores such as Wal-Mart, United and Target are ideal and may be given to Margaret Maloney in University Mail Services, located in the McGlothlin Campus Center, or to Watkins in Room 201 of the Hardin Administration Building. Gift cards may be mailed to Lea Watkins, ACU Box 29136, Abilene, Texas, 79699.
The Penas will begin moving this weekend, so gift cards should be turned in by 4 p.m. Friday if possible.
"Gene and Noemi have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support shown them during the last week," Watkins said. "Please continue to overwhelm them at this time."
