Abilene Christian University's TV station, KXN-TV, has announced that it is affiliating with a new network. The Annenberg/CPB channel will air beginning Wednesday, Nov. 19. KXN-TV can be seen in Abilene on channel 7 off-air and on Cox Cable, channel 7.
The station, formerly known as KUF-TV, changed call letters when the FCC granted the university Class A status and allowed an increase in power. KXN-TV is broadcasting at 1,500 watts and has a range of about 5 miles from the ACU campus.
"We basically cover Abilene," said Dr. Larry Bradshaw, director of broadcasting at ACU.
The station will air programming targeted at public schools as well as colleges and universities. The Annenberg/CPB channel is a cooperative effort between the Annenberg Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to support K-12 education in the United States.
The channel features programs in science, foreign languages and social sciences, as well as documentaries and teacher education. KXN-TV has carried The Learning Channel for the past nine years. Before that the station carried The Mind Extension University network. Cox Cable subscribers can continue to watch The Learning Channel on Cox Cable channel 50.
