After winning an auction for lunch with Bob Schieffer in Fort Worth more than a year ago, Dr. Cheryl M. Bacon, chair of ACU's Journalism and Mass Communication Department, is finally collecting her prize.
Schieffer, chief political analyst for CBS and host of the talk show "Face The Nation," will be speaking at noon on Tuesday in the Teague Special Events Center.
Schieffer and Bacon had originally scheduled the event for last March, but it was canceled when CBS needed Schieffer to cover the pending war in Iraq.
The lunch with the journalist was a last-minute addition to the auction last September at the Legal Defense Fund Luncheon. The auction functions as one of several fundraisers to support journalists each year at the Society of Professional Journalists' National Convention. With help from other attendees who rallied to the cause and pitched in money and support, Bacon won the lunch with Scheiffer.
Schieffer's most recent book, "This Just In: What I Couldn’t Tell You On TV," is on the New York Times Best Seller List and recounts many of the events he has covered since his career began in the 1960s in Fort Worth.
Schieffer will begin signing books at 11:30 a.m. in the foyer of Teague prior to the luncheon. The book is currently available for purchase at the Abilene Bookstore in downtown Abilene. A few tickets for the luncheon are still available and must be reserved by Friday at noon by calling 325-674-2296.
